What are the Gateway Organisations?
Gateway Organsations are existing membership organisations for dance professionals that work with DTAP to manage entry onto The Dance Register. All Gateway Organisations are different, and manage their "offer" for The Dance Register in different ways - some include membership of The Dance Register within their wider membership package, others offer it as a separate benefit, which they help their members to access. Either way, if you are a member (or are interested in becoming a member) of one of the Gateway Organisations, you should talk to them about joining The Dance Register because Gateway Organisations are able to offer Dance Register membership at the reduced price of £15 per year. The current Dance Register Gateway Organisations are Council for Dance Education & Training (CDET), Dance UK, Exercise, Movement & Dance Partnership (EMDP) and the Foundation for Community Dance (FCD).
How much does it cost to join via Direct Entry?
If you do not want to become a member of one of the Gateway Organisations and want to join The Dance Register indepedently, you should complete our online application form. Direct Entry to The Dance Register costs £40 per year.
If I decide to join The Dance Register how long will the application process take?
We aim to process any new application to The Dance Register within 28 days of receipt. If you have not heard from DTAP or your Gateway Organisation within 28 days of submitting your application, please contact us.
What are the benefits of joining The Dance Register?
The Dance Register is a great tool for dance teachers and leaders to:
- Show dance employers and the public you are committed to best practice: by joining The Dance Register you are signing up to the Code of Professional Conduct and must pass The Dance Register Minimum Entry Requirements, which together provide quality assurance for dance employers and potential dance students
- Build your reputation as a dance teacher and attract new dance students: The Dance Register is a free to search one-stop-shop website for members of the public and dance employers looking for high-quality dance teachers in the UK. You can showcase your work using a dedicated online profile, which includes details of your qualifications, experience, dance styles, and the age groups you teach.
The Dance Register also:
- Provides up-to-date dance industry wide information: through our Latest News, Twitter and Facebook feeds
- Provides a context for your work: Joining The Dance Register will give you access to the largest searchable database of dance teachers in the UK for networking, discussion and debate
How long does my membership last?
Membership runs for 1 year from your date of acceptance onto The Dance Register
How do I renew my membership?
You will automatically receive an email from us 1 month before your membership of The Dance Register falls due for renewal. You must then either contact your Gateway Organisation or CDET if you entered via Direct Entry, to complete your membership renewal.
I am a dance teacher and want to join The Dance Register, but am concerned that I might not be able to meet all of The Dance Register Minimum Entry Requirements at the moment. What should I do?
If you want to join The Dance Register but cannot fulfil all of the Minimum Entry Requirements at the moment, please contact DTAP or one of the Gateway Organisations, who will be able to provide advice on how to meet the Minimum Entry Requirements. You can also visit the Useful Information page on this website for a range of resources/links designed to help you meet the Minimum Entry Requirements.
Why are teacher contact details included on some teacher profiles, and not on others?
Due to data protection, the default position for all teacher profiles on The Dance Register is that no contact information is included on a profile. However, due to the fact that some teachers feel strongly that they would like their contact details displayed because The Dance Register is a promotional tool for them, there is an opt-in, where a teacher can specifically opt to include their contact details on a profile – as they might in a business directly listing or something similar. Direct contact details are only displayed if a teacher has specifically confirmed that they want to include them, via the opt in facility. The default is that their contact details are not on display, and members of the public contact teachers via an online enquiry form.
